Burton Albion Ladies impressed against Leicester City Ladies with a 4-0 victory.

Goals from Jordan Atkin, Charlotte Cresswell and a brace from Hayleigh Sutton helped the Brewers get their second win of the year.

It took the Brewers just nine minutes to find themselves in front.

Sutton gave them the early lead, after a spell of good football resulted in the first goal of the game. Jemma Grimadell played the ball into Atkin who jinked her way into the box. Her cross finds Sutton who buried it into the back of the net.

Just minutes later, they could have double their lead. Yasmin Harris held up the ball in the box, before setting up Grimadell – who was playing in a slightly more advanced role compared to last weekend – but her left footed shot smashed back off the underside of the crossbar.

Leicester City were still in the game and caused problems from a corner when Turner had to save low as the ball bobbled around the box before the danger was eventually cleared.

Despite a lapse in concentration, which could have seen the Brewers pegged back, they got themselves a two-goal advantage going into half time.

Atkin got her name on the scoresheet for the second game in a row, after she converted her one on one with the goalkeeper.

There were opportunities from Grimadell, substitute Charlotte Cresswell and Atkin – who danced her way through – but they couldn’t convert their chances to goals until right-back Sutton was on hand to get her second of the afternoon.

It wasn’t the prettiest of goals as she let fire from a tight angle, but it crept in and the Brewers weren’t complaining as they put distance between themselves and the Foxes.

In the last minute, Cresswell rounded off the afternoon with a fourth goal. She won the ball before unleashing a shot which rippled the back of the net.

The result leaves the Brewers in fifth, before playing Steel City next weekend.

Manager Jack White said: The whole team played well today and it’s nice to pick up another three points. We challenged the players to carry on from the good performance of last week and they definitely did that. They controlled the game from the start and put themselves into a comfortable position thanks to two well-taken goals in the first half.

We’ve worked hard during training on getting more players into the box when attacking and it paid off again today. Hayleigh Sutton and Charlotte Cresswell both do the defensive side of their role very well so it’s pleasing to see them get forward and score goals.

“Our goalkeeper, defenders and midfielders all looked solid and we know how much of a threat our strikers can be.

“We are all happy with how well the season has gone so far and we’ll look to continue this good run for as long as we can. We have a talented, hard-working group of players who are on form and I know how happy they would be if even more people came along to support them.”
