Reserve team boss James Billings wants to make sure his team gives a “good account of themselves” in their first season as a Women’s Premier League club.

With their season kicking off this Sunday with a home fixture against The New Saints Ladies, the team will be looking forward to a fresh challenge in a new league.

Billings said: “We are entering into the unknown this season with this being the highest level the reserves have played at.

“I want us to be able to say in April/May that we gave a good account of ourselves in our first year as a Premier League club.”

Mirroring the senior side as they begin their Premier League adventure, the reserves have provided new first team manager Jack White with some of his current crop of players, including Sophie Liggins and Ellie Milsom – who both featured in last weekend’s win over Sporting Khalsa.

Speaking of the players’ progression from the reserves to the first team, Billings commented: “Last season we had a target of developing a number of players to progress into the first team. I would like to match that if not better it this season.

“Also, we introduced a number of under-16’s into the reserves last season and hopefully this year we’ll be able to do the same as part of our player pathway.”

With development a key element of Burton Albion Ladies, the reserves will be hoping to get the season off to a positive start with a win and they will take confidence from the first team’s unbeaten start to life in the FA WPL.

This weekend’s opposition, The New Saints Ladies, finished bottom of the FA WPL Reserve Midland Division last season.

However, they will still provide tough competition for the Brewers as they battle it out in their first fixture in the league.

It will be played at the Pirelli Stadium 3G (DE13 0AR), kicking off at 2pm.
